This image was taken on our first mission trip to Kentucky in December 2001. It is perhaps the epitome of what was going on in our hearts and heads as we walked through the hills and hollers of Eastern Kentucky. Our hearts were heavy but our spirits lifted to know that God had asked us to invest our lives in this area of people. The mountains are high, the hollers are deep and the music makes the grass blue. We love our families in Kentucky.
This includes lodging, on site meals and a t-shirt. This cost does not include fuel necessary to get missionaries to the location. We rely on contributions from individuals to help meet this need. Participants are responsible for all meals while traveling.
Once your sign-up via email or by calling the Get Real office, your name will be placed on a list. As time gets closer to the trip (depending on what time of year you sign-up for a trip) you will be contacted by text, call or email to confirm that you want to attend the trip. After that you will receive information regarding a deposit to hold your slot. A RELEASE & INFORMATION form should be returned with your deposit. This holds your slot and gives us necessary information for planning and ordering t-shirts. You will then receive the trip needs list which will give you the opportunity to share your trip with others and let them be a part of helping. You will receive an email with specific information regarding dress code, items you will need for the trip and important information.

Our first trip to Appalachia was in December 2001. We quickly learned about a place that has been devastated by the decline of the coal mining industry which has left many families in a spinning circle of poverty. We know that we cannot fix the problems at hand but we know that we can offer Hope in Christ which can transform a life filled with no hope into a life of Hope.
December missions focus on meeting physical needs through providing coats, blankets, toys and food to the community. This enables many families to have Christmas. Every trip to Kentucky is filled with public school assemblies- high energy assemblies with a positive message for students to apply to their lives.
Come and join us in the mountains and help bring HOPE to the families of Appalachia.
TRIP DESCRIPTION: Focuses on relationship-building, public school assemblies, distribution of food, shoes, clothing and working with local missionaries and holding events for the community.
SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES (ages 6 &up).
"Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:15-17
